Tungsten Copper Rods – Alloy WCu 80:20

Alloyed Tungsten Copper Rods WCu 80:20 – melted for extreme heat, arc & wear resistance. Ideal for EDM, aerospace & welding.Tungsten Copper Alloy WCu 80:20 is a true molten alloy, created by melting and alloying 80% tungsten and 20% copper into a uniform, high-performance metal. It combines the strength, density, and heat resistance of tungsten with the superior thermal and electrical conductivity of copper, making it ideal for critical applications where other alloys fail under pressure, temperature, or arc load.

Manufacturing Process: Melted & Alloyed

Unlike conventional tungsten-copper materials that are produced through sintering and infiltration, WCu 80:20 alloy rods are manufactured by melting both tungsten and copper together at high temperatures to form a homogeneous alloy. This process ensures:

  • Uniform metal distribution at the microstructural level

  • Improved metallurgical bonding between tungsten and copper

  • Greater structural integrity

  • Higher resistance to delamination, thermal fatigue, and erosion

The alloy offers enhanced conductivity, machinability, and longer service life—especially in high-load industrial environments.

Key Features
  • ✅ True Alloyed Metal – Not a pressed or sintered composite

  • ✅ High Thermal & Electrical Conductivity – Ideal for arc applications

  • ✅ Superior Machinability – Despite its high tungsten content

  • ✅ Extreme Density (15.0–15.5 g/cm³) – For stability & impact resistance

  • ✅ Dimensional Stability – Withstands thermal shock and arc erosion

  • ✅ Minimal Thermal Expansion – Great for precision-critical tools

Applications

The WCu 80:20 alloy is engineered for extreme operating conditions. It’s commonly used in:

  • EDM electrodes – for cutting hardened steel and exotic alloys

  • Welding electrodes – for high-load, high-duty-cycle operations

  • High-voltage switchgear contacts – arc-resistant

  • Aerospace components – shielding, balance weights

  • Electrical contacts – in power and rail infrastructure

  • Missile and projectile components – due to its high mass and strength

  • Precision tooling and high-heat industrial inserts

Industry Standards ASTM B702,  RWMA Class 11 – Resistance welding electrodes
